CMC extends on-line tax payment

Five kiosks with facilities for on-line payment are due to be set up within the Colombo Municipal Council limits. This will enable tax-payers who do not possess internet facilities of their own, to make tax remittances to the CMC online.

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) took steps to introduce the on-line tax payment system to the Colombo Municipal Council in 2014.

That was the first time an online tax payment system was introduced to any local government authority in Sri Lanka. Since the introduction of the system in 2014, the total amount of remittances received on-line up to now by the CMC as tax payment was over Rs.10 million.

On-line tax payment received by CMC from January-April this year was over Rs. 4.2 million. The facility could be availed of by using the websites www.srilanka.lk or www.cmc.lk.

Tax payment to the CMC could also be made through the mobile phone.

There are nearly 600,000 permanent residents within the CMC limits and the amount per year from rates payment alone was over Rs. 3,300 million.
