honours Prof. Mohan Munasinghe
Professor Mohan Munasinghe, who shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for
Peace, was honoured by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
with a special award presented by Haoliang Xu, Assistant Administrator,
UNDP, on behalf of Helen Clarke, UNDP Administrator.
The plaque was bestowed for outstanding contributions to sustainable,
inclusive and resilient development and assisting UNDP build empowered
lives and resilient nations in the Asia-Pacific Region, during the
recent meeting of the UNDP Distinguished Advisory Panel in Bangkok. Mr.
Xu also visited Sri Lanka in April 2015 for discussions with senior
government ministers and officials. Professor Munasinghe is Founder
Chairman of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND), Colombo;
Distinguished guest professor, Peking University, China; and Senior
Advisor to the Government of Sri Lanka. |
