Colombo Dockyard to build tug boat for the Maldives
Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDL) recently laid the keel to mark the launch
of construction of the eight-ton bollard pull tug boat for the State
Trading Organisation in the Maldives.
The keel was laid by a team led by Managing Director and CEO Ranil
Wijegunawardane comprising Director, M. Koshi, General Manager, Projects
and Engineering, D.V. Abeysinghe, Special Project Manager, S.D. Gilbert
and senior management and project management team members. The surveyors
of the project, Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) led by D.V.D. Prasad
Rao and his team. S.S. Hewawasam, Chanaka Rupasinghe and Thusitha Herath
were also present.
Colombo Dockyard is building large Offshore Support Vessels for the
oil and gas exploration and production domain, such as 80-150-ton
bollard pull anchor handling tug supply vessels, multipurpose platform
supply vessels, platform and ROV support vessels and crew boats.
Seven OSVs are under construction for delivery between 2015-2017.
Over the recent past, Colombo Dockyard delivered more than 19 OSVs to
Singaporean and Indian ship owners and all vessels built by Colombo
Dockyard secured charters soon after delivery.
These vessels have been the Charterer's preferred choice due to its
reliability and high level of crew comfort provided in vessels of this
class. On average, Colombo Dockyard manufactures and delivers four
Offshore Support Vessels and repairs over 160 vessels per year,
generating millions in foreign exchange to the Sri Lankan economy and
providing direct and indirect employment to over 3,000 Sri Lankans. |
