Lankaputhra Development Bank (LDB) launched a program to provide
financial assistance to boost the business of members of the
Battaramulla-Sri Jayewardenepura Self-Employed Workers' Association.
Tills were also distributed among the small-scale industrialists who
received financial assistance to promote the savings habit.
Chairman Lasantha Goonewardena, Working Director Thuwan Riza Hameit,
General Manager and CEO Lasantha Amarasekara and Deputy General Manager
Ranjith Dissanayake distributed the loans and tills at a ceremony in
Kimbulawala, Battaramulla.
The members of the Association sell a wide variety of items such as
kola kenda (herbal porridge), sweetmeats, ornamental goods, compact
discs and various beverages. The Lankaputhra Development Bank launched
this scheme following a request by the Association and hopes to provide
loans to all members of the Association soon.
One of the key features of the loan scheme is that a representative
of LDB will make monthly field visits to observe the progress of the
business of every loan recipient. During such visits, the field officer
will also collect the loan instalment and the savings amount which will
be deposited in his or her account. |
