My favourite novel
During the last vacation, I bought a spellbinding novel, “Fire spell”
written by the famous American author Laura Amy Schlitz. The book is
about witchcraft. The three main characters are Clara Wintermute,
Lizzie-Rose Fawr and Parsefall Hooke.
The story begins with Clara, a rich and rather spoiled girl who gets
everything she needed. On her 12th birthday, a puppet master named
Grishni and his two orphaned helpers, Lizzie Rose and Parsefall came to
her house and performed a puppet show. But the puppet master was an evil
wizard who captures Clara that night and transforms her into a puppet.
This story is about how Lizzie Rose and Parsefall finds the truth and
rescue her.
I like this story because it is a brilliant and bewitching magical
adventure. It teaches us the value of friendship, determination and
courage. I love Lizzie Rose the best. She is very lovable and kind.
Reading “Fire spell” proved that “wickedness never wins” and “nothing
is impossible.” It is the most unforgettable, spellbinding novel I have
ever read.

I am a pencil
I was brought to Sri Lanka by sea and stacked in a busy place. Later
I was picked up by a child who became my first master. I was delighted
at first, but unfortunately my happiness was short lived. My master kept
on shaving my head ruthlessly at regular intervals. Several times I
attempted to escape by jumping off the table.
I had serious injuries on my head. To make matters worse, my master
started shaving my head again. Not only that, he started biting me while
writing, especially when he is sitting for examinations and writing the
answer scripts.
I was tall earlier, I am like a dwarf now. One day, my ungrateful
master realised that he could not hold on to me to write and threw me
into a garbage bin. But, the garbage bin was much better than the
luxurious mansion where my master lived.

Water is precious
Water is the most precious commodity for the survival of all living
beings. Even though more than half of our Earth is covered with water,
only a small part of it can be used for drinking purposes. Only Earth
has water and it is called a Blue Planet.
Nowadays we don’t care much for water conservation, since water is in
abundance everywhere. But, some day these resources will be exhausted.
Therefore, we must not waste this resource.

Collecting stamps
My hobby is collecting stamps which is popular among schoolchildren.
I ave collected about 75 stamps. They are from countries such as India.
There are different types of pictures on each stamp and the amount is
different. I have pasted my stamps in an album.
We can learn a lot from these stamps. My mother and father helps me
by giving me stamps. I collect stamps from the letters which come
through the mail.
When I have stamps of the same kind I exchange it with my brother. I
visit the post office where I buy new stamps. I love to collect stamps.

Sigiriya
Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress. It is situated in the Matale
district. It was built in the fifth century by King Kashshapa. He ran
away from Anuradhapura and built a beautiful palace on top of the rock
where nobody could kill him. It is a wonderful creation.
Sigiriya has been included as one of the eight wonders of the world.
It is our world heritage. The picturesque area is beautiful and adds
valuable grandeur.
We can see the ruins of this palace today the wall paintings, mirror
wall, graffiti, Sigiriya maidens, stone pillars, ponds and the
fountains. It is one of the tourist attractions. We must protect our
Sigiriya kingdom.

Communication
Communication means exchanging information and ideas among people.
There is a huge difference in communication then and now. In ancient
times people had to travel faraway to deliever messages.
Transport was an important mode of communication. The Kings
messengers carried messages by hand through the country on difficult
roads. A messenger who travelled on a horse could go a maximum of 100
miles a day. Kings used drummers to communicate with the public.
Communication was very slow then.
With the invention of electronic communication tools, communication
has become easier. All we have to do is turn on the computers or
mobiles. Today we can communicate with any part of the world with the
development of radio, television, computers and telephones.
We can learn about events in every corner of the world at the blink
of an eye. Today the world is smaller and it is called a ‘Global
Village.’

The dream
I was sailing in a boat one night in the deep sea while watching the
moon and the stars in the clear sky.I felt that he moon was getting
closer to me as the boat sailed fast.I had never seen the moon so big.
It appeared as a huge snow cap.The stars twinkling around the moon were
like tiny diamonds.
The sea breeze along with the waves made me relax. I got lost in the
sky and I felt myself like a feather. At once the wind began to blow
heavily. The speed of the waves became violent that my boat began to
drift. I could not control my boat and I saw the giant waves coming
towards my boat.
I was shouting for help but there was no one in the vicinity. I got
frightened when I saw a cyclone circling in the middle of the ocean. The
sea water was dragged by the cyclone and made the surroundings dark.
There were stars and the moon. There were dark clouds.
I was helpless and within a second my boat too was dragged away by
the cyclone. My boat was smashed into small pieces. I got circled with
the cyclone as I fell off the bed. I opened my eyes and my mother was
beside me. Then I realised that it was a dream. It was the worst dream
that I ever had in my life.
