British School excel in swimming
Gavin Karunanayake of the British School in Colombo put up a dazzling
performance as he clinched three gold medals at the 42nd Sri Lanka
Schools Age Group Aquatic Sports Championships concluded last week at
the Sugathadasa pool.
Competing in the U-15 age category, the promising swimmer won 100m
butterfly, 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.
He clocked 1 minute 03.42 seconds in the 100m butterfly, 2 minutes
27.99 secs in the 200m butterfly and 2 minutes 29.57 secs in the
individual medley to grab a triple crown. In the U-13 age group Si Woo
Lee finished second in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1 minute
22.32 secs. Lee also returned a time of 37.61 secs in the 50m
breaststroke to finish third. Meanwhile in the girls U-15 age group
Azquiya Usuph finished third in the 200m individual medley with a time
of 2 minutes 49.56 secs. She also competed in 100m backstroke and 50m
backstroke and was placed fourth in events.
Amber Tappin, Randi Chandrasena Swaarthi Ramanan and Samantha Tappin
combined well to finished second in the girls U-11 400m medley relay.
They returned a time of 6 minutes 30.82 seconds.
