BASL urges public to act fearlessly
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) yesterday requested public
servants and the general public to act fearlessly and responsibly
upholding the free and fair nature of the elections. Issuing a statement
to the media, the BASL called upon the public to think independently and
to be vigilant and act responsibly against all forms of elections
violations such as thuggery, intimidation and any form of illegal
influence or acts of bribery.
BASL also requested public servants at National and Local Government
level and law enforcement officers to carry out their duties with
loyalty without fear or favour, and the public to report all forms of
election violations, abuse of state resources and media, to the
Commissioner of Elections and the Police without delay.
