The American Center and Eisenhower Fellowships Association of Sri
Lanka invite youth ages 12-18 to submit original essays on President
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States of
America.
Competitors will be divided into three age groups with three
different topics.
Age 12-14
"Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you
want done because he wants to do it," is a quote by President
Eisenhower. He proved that he was a good leader in both political and
military arenas. Discuss his leadership role while serving in the
military and as the president. (500 words)
Age 15-16
President Eisenhower was concerned with promoting peace and equality
in the United States of America.
Discuss his role as a promoter of peace and lessons you can learn
from him for the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka. (750 words).
Age 17-18
"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who
has seen its brutality, its futility, and its stupidity" is a quote by
President Eisenhower. Discuss your thoughts on the 30 years of civil war
Sri Lanka has experienced. (1,000 words).
The first three winners in each age group will be given a cash prize:
Rs. 30,000 for first place, Rs. 20,000 for second place, and Rs. 10,000
for third place.
Winners will also receive a certificate, a selection of American
literature, and a membership to the American Center library.

with your details certified by your school principal/vice principal to
the following address:

All essays must be original creations by students and must be
certified by the school principal or vice/deputy principal. Essays found
to be plagiarized will be automatically disqualified.
Winners will be announced on September 18, 2015. All entries must be
