Seetha Devi girls hockey champs

Seetha Devi Girls College, Kandy put up a fantastic performance to become champions at the all island schools under 17 girls hockey championship by defeating Presidents College, Nawala 2 - 0 in the finals of the tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and played at Edward Park, Matale. At half time Seetha Devians led 1 - 0.

Seetha Devians displayed constructive stick and bamboozled the losers with skipper and centre half Charuka Abeyratne, centre forward Tharaki Paranagama left extreme Bashini Perera, right back Madhumali Karunatillake and full back Thanali Dissanayake in the thick of everything.

The winners opened scoring in the 12th minute of the first half when right back Madhumali Karunatillake sent a long hit to the opponents territory which was well collected by left extreme Bashini Perera who switched a pass to Tharuka Abeyratne who when challenged off loaded to centre forward Tharaki Paranagama who drove in a snorter to beat the opponents custodian.

Mid way in the second half they moved the ball in gay abandon with the ballchanging from Madhumali Karunatillake, Tharaki Paranagama and finally ended with centre half Charuka Abeyratne who scored with a well calculated drive.

Centre forward Tharaki Paranagama was adjudged the "Best Player" of the tournament.

Museaus College, Colombo clinched the third place by defeating Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls College Colombo 1 - 0 in the losers final.
