Trinity gears up for new season
by Hafiz Marikar
Trinity College is gearing up for the 2016 inter school rugby season
and the team will be captained by Rahul Karunatilleke who played as a
second row forward last year.
Karunatilleke is considered a good choice and his presence is a
reassuring factor.
This season Trinity will be fielding a talented side which also marks
their 72nd Bradby Shield year against arch rival Royal College.
The first leg of the Bradby will be on April 30 at the Royal Complex
ground and the return leg on May 14 at Pallekele.
The 1979 Trinity College captain JV Tissera is on course to be the
chef guest at this year's match.
Under his captaincy Trinity won the first leg 4-3 (when four points
were awarded for a try) and Royal won the second 18-0 to win the Bradby.
The overall record from 140 games gives Trinity College 66 wins and
Royal College 63 with 11 games drawn.
Trinity won the Bradby Shield 39 times while Royal triumphed on 30
occasions with one tied.
Trinity will kick off the season with their annual rugby carnival on
March 5 when they will scrum down with their old boys at Pallekele.
Their first round League matches start on March 18 against Wesley at
Pallekele followed by matches against St. Joseph's (April 2 at Pallekele),
DS Senanayake (April 9 at Longden Place), S Thomas' (April 23 at
Pallekele) and Royal (April 30 at Royal Complex)
