Finance Ministry to report to PM:
Poor response from SOEs
By Disna Mudalige
The Project Management and Monitoring Department of the Finance
Ministry will submit a report to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe
next week on the status of State-owned Enterprises on preparing the Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the first quarter of the year.
The concept of KPIs has been introduced to all State-owned
Enterprises (SOEs) to streamline organisational activities and enhance
productivity levels. The Department has set April 15 as the deadline for
all SOEs to report their KPIs.
The Department has decided to submit a status report to the Prime
Minister on how many SOEs had responded to the KPIs, how many were
preparing them and the SOEs which are yet to respond.
Department sources told the Sunday Observer that there were SOEs that
had not submitted even a single report though it was mandatory for all
SOEs to comply with.
“These reports are new to our organisations. Some KPI reports and
action plans were not in order, so we sent them back. Some had not
responded, citing that they were not acquainted with the system,” they
said. The Department has also conducted a training session for the
officials with the support of the Asian Development Bank consultants.
Government agencies should set their own targets under the KPI system
and the Project Management and Monitoring Department which comes under
the National Policy and the Economic Affairs Ministry has been assigned
to monitor their progress. |
