Raymonda
The Russian Centre in Colombo, together with the Colombo Classical
Ballet Circle will be presenting a DVD screening (with English
subtitles) of Raymond a Ballet in 3 Acts, at the Russian Centre
Auditorium at 3.30 p.m. on April 29.
Choreographed by Marius Petipa, with music by Alexander Glazunov, his
opus 57, Raymonda was first presented by the Imperial Ballet at the
Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in January 1898.
The ballet was created especially for the benefit performance of the
Italian ballerina Pierina Legnani, who created the title role. Among the
ballet's most celebrated passages is the Pas classique hongrois (a.k.a.
Raymonda Pas de dix) from the third act, which is often performed
independently.The DVD screening will showcase the revised version by Y.
Grogorovich performed by artists and orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre.
