The second batch of Brandix associates completed the Personal
Advancement and Career Enhancement (PACE) program for women workers in
the apparel industry recently at Brandix Apparel Solutions Limited (BASL)
- Casualwear, Ratmalana.
The batch comprised 143 associates and took the number of Brandix
associates who have completed the PACE course to date to 293.
The PACE program is a life and work skills education program designed
by Gap Inc. to positively impact women garment workers in factories that
manufacture for the label. The program provides workers with
foundational skills, technical training and support to help them advance
in the workplace and in their personal lives. The course comprises eight
modules: Life skills education including communication; Problem solving
and decision Making; Time and stress management; Water, sanitation and
hygiene; Financial literacy; Legal literacy and Social entitlement;
General and reproductive health; and Execution excellence. Research
shows PACE certificate holders are more productive, have lower rates of
absenteeism and are promoted faster than factory workers who do not
participate in the program. The program is run in apparel factories in
India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Pakistan,
Jordan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Head of CSR and Corporate Communications,
Brandix, Anusha Alles said, "The content of the course has been proved
to motivate and empower women workers to progress in their careers."
In another example of the Group's commitment to the empowerment of
women employees, Brandix recently conducted an in-house training course
on sewing machine maintenance and repair for female mechanics. |
