Leicester makes bold reply
after Shanaka’s century

LEICESTER: Dasun Shanaka the Sri Lanka number eight hit a brilliant century to
guide his team to a respectable first innings total of 367 on the second day of
their 3-day tour match against Leicestershire at Grace Road on Saturday.
Sri Lanka who had lost their top order cheaply and were struggling at 192 for
eight when Shanaka joined by Rangana Herath staged an excellent rearguard action
producing 174 runs for the ninth wicket to frustrate the Leicestershire bowlers
who upto that point had been dominant.
Shanaka who was unbeaten on 91 overnight completed his century and his knock of
112 off 132 balls comprised 11 fours and four sixes.
Herath providing excellent support reached a well deserved half-century scoring
55 off 95 balls with eight fours as Sri Lanka’s total eventually reached
respectability.
Herath then returned with the ball to dismiss both openers Angus Robson (39) and
Lewis Hill (30) but Leicestershire buoyed by Michael Burgess (98) and Tom Wells
(53) made a spirited reply to be 304-5 at close.
