SLIM Awards on March 9

Themed 'Discover the Good Side of the Bad Times', the SLIM Ad Awards 2002, the much awaited event in the advertising calendar, will be held on March 9 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC), Colombo.

It is organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) for the 13th consecutive year to recognise and reward creative excellence in marketing communications. It is aimed at improving the standards of advertising in Sri Lanka to world class levels, said Chairman, Organising Committee G.S. Sylvestor.

He said this year's theme was selected to emphasize the need for closer client and agency interaction to create a strong impact on the marketing scenario and also clear the slightest doubts in the minds of the business sector.

"We received 924 entries from 28 agencies. For the first time, the judging process was computerised where all were provided with notebook computers to enter scores online. Judging was completed in three rounds within three days," he said.

The judges of this year's competition are Chairman Sri Lanka Tourist Board Renton De Alwis, Chairman and Executive Creative Director TBWA, NEXT and Triplet Thailand Thor Santisiri, Associate Creative Director McCann Erickson India Romeen Yarkhan, Managing Director MTI Consulting Sri Lanka Lasantha Abeywickrama, Marketing Professional Kingsley Bernard, Managing Director Masters DDB Mike Masilamani, Executive Creative Director LDB Lintas Padmakumar Narasimamoorthy, Creative Director Leo Burnett Solutions Udaya Tennekoon and Associate Creative Director Phoenix O&M Rohan Piyadasa.

Mr Sylvestor said the highlight of this year is the introduction of the new category 'Marcom'. There will be 10 awards in this category ranging from direct response marketing and corporate promotional material to outdoor and point of sale. There will also be an award for the 'Creative Person of the Year'.
