An invitation to Lankan expats in IT

Sri Lankan expatriates who are professionals in ICT - Information Communication Technology - are being sought by their motherland.

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) will hold a forum for such persons on March 16 at the German CeBIT 2002 Hannover Fair.

The annual CeBIT is one of the most important events of its type in the world, where leading professionals in computers, information technology and software gather.

The EDB will also take representatives of 10 Sri Lankan companies involved in hardware and software exports to Hannover.

The EDB's attempt to contact Lankans engaged in ICT, is primarily an attempt to increase exports of software, EDB Assistant Director Saman Maldeni said. "We must know their capabilities and we wish to inform them of our strengths," he said. It is hoped that expatriate Lankan IT professionals would tie up with Sri Lankan software manufacturers and\or help Sri Lankan corporates tie up with overseas partners.

There are at least two Sri Lankans who own ICT companies overseas.
