Japan gives Rs. 4.1 million for development in the North The Government of Japan has provided a sum of US$ 42,880 (approximately Rs. 4.1 million ) on the Lanka Jatika Sarvodaya Sharmadana Sangamaya (Inc) for the integrated development of 30 villages under the 5R (Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Reconciliation and Reawakening) strategy in the districts of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Killinochchi and Mannar, a press release issued by the embassy of Japan stated. It is estimated that due to the protracted ethnic conflict 130,000 people are either missing or lost their lives and 900,000 displaced people have been suffering great hardships for nearly two decades. It has destroyed the fabric of civil life making a severe impact on people's lives. They are overwhelmed by poverty. They have no proper education or nutrition for their children and pregnant mothers. |
