Lake House emerge VB champs

Lake House spikers led by M. D. Gamini Gunathilaka became champions at the Invitation Volleyball Tournament conducted by the Fort Police Station held in connection with 2002 New Yar Sports Festival and played at Police Park courts, Bambalapitiya recently.

The festival was sponsored by Bank of Ceylon.

Seven leading teams participated in the tournament and Lake House side were unbeaten. In the semi-finals, Lake House defeated Fort Police 'C' team in straight sets 15-14, 15-6.

Lake House met Fort Police 'A' team in the final and the champions overcame their opponents with good allround court play to defeat them by three sets to one 15-6, 15-8, 12-15 and 15-6.

Sampath Kodituwakku was the most outstanding player for Lake House team while Weerasinghe stood out best for the losers.
