The sponsorship of internationally recognised referees such as Dilroy Fernando, S.W. Chang, Nizam Jamaldeen, Anil Jayasinghe and Aruna Jayasekera, to name a few will help uplift the sport in Sri Lanka. The agreement between was signed at the Hilton Hotel last Wednesday between Nushad Perera, GM, Sales and Marketing, Dialog GSM, and President of the Sri Lanka Society for Rugby Football Referees (SSRFR), Nimal Lewke. Perera, speaking at the press conference, said that Dialog is privileged once again to support the Society of Referees in officiating in the World Cup qualifying matches, and are also proud to be associated with the Society in enhancing local rugby football standards." "We are continuing Dialog's commitment to rugby by sponsoring the referees and the Army rugby team," he said. President of the SSRFR, Nimal Lewke said that this is the second year that Dialog has come forward to sponsor the referees and this is indeed commendable as rugby referees unlike some coaches and international cricket umpires do not get a remuneration but just some travelling money to cover outstation matches. "The sponsorship package covers the attire of the referees and touch judges and they will have to wear the Dialog logo and since there are about 20 active referees they will be well attired for the coming season" observed Nushad Perera. |
