Ladies' College OGA Motor Rally

Ladies' College Old Girls' Association organized a rousing car rally on Sunday April 7, from the College and ending at Villa Ocean View Hotel, Wadduwa. 43 cars, packed with enthusiastic women and men, each car bearing a rally name and sporting a red and white flag and decorated with red and white balloons, bows, streamers, stars and banners, took to the roads.

The first car left sharp at 8.32 a.m. and was flagged off by the Principal, Ladies' College Dr. Sriyanie Miththapala, and the next by the President of the Ladies' College OGA, Mrs. Indraneela Fernando. The cars left every two minutes to begin and complete the rally route which took them through Narahenpita, Kalubowila, Horana and finally back to Galle Road at Panadura and onwards to their destination.

The rally route was meticulously plotted and excitingly planned through the untiring efforts of Pubudu Wickrama, Sri Lanka's reigning rally driving champion and Nishan Wasalathanthri - both of whom are active members of SLARDA. They conducted the rally voluntarily and spared no pains, and did an excellent job. To them, their colleagues and their assistants the ladies owe a debt of gratitude. The rally concluded at approximately 1 p.m.

The event together with the rest of the days programme, was a fund raiser for the Ladies' College Old Girls' Association. The General Manager and staff of Villa Ocean View Hotel, Wadduwa went to great lengths to host this event. The carnival atmosphere, the decor, the menu, and music all blended with the theme.

The rest of the days programme included a sing-song and dance, Bingo and the awards ceremony. The winners of the rally were "Team Jingles" with Lakmini Wijesundara (navigator), Kshenuka Saparamadu (driver), Shanika Wickremanayake and Sharmila Aboosally. The prize was a return air ticket to Bangkok courtesy Gabo Travels. Prizes were also given to the first nine rally participants, the best and gaudiest vehicle, and to the two highest sponsored vehicles.

Wheels Private Ltd., a part sponsor launched their latest tyre "Hercules" at the rally, while the other part sponsors were Belucci Products, Carmart Ltd. and Seylan Bank.
