Exposure for Sri Lanka Tourism at PATA Congress

Sri Lanka received worldwide attention at the annual congress of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) which was held last month in New Delhi. Sri Lanka was represented by a larger delegation at this year's congress.

PATA, a prime travel and tourism association of the Asia Pacific, comprises over 800 members from 41 countries. The PATA annual Congress is a major event for the industry in this region and was attended by over 1100 senior travel personalities from all parts of the world.

This year's congress was hosted by the government of India and was inaugurated by Atal Behari Vajpayee, India's Prime Minister.

Sri Lanka was in the limelight due to the ongoing peace initiatives.

PATA organised a special media briefing for Sri Lanka Tourism, which was well attended.

Director General of the Ceylon Tourist Board Tissa Warnasuriya, PATA Sri Lanka Chapter Chairman Sega Nagendra, and PATA International Board Member Hiran Cooray enlightened the media on the current peace initiatives and the product development in tourism in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Hiran Cooray was appointed to the executive committee of PATA International, becoming the first Sri Lankan to hold such a position in PATA.
