Pahan pooja for war heroes

by Don Asoka Wijewardena

The Association for Families of Servicemen Missing in Action (AFSMA) in Sri Lanka has organised an islandwide "Iti Pahan Pooja" on May 11 at 8.00 p.m. in memory of those who have lost their lives, rendered disabled or missing while on national duty in defence of the motherland.

At a press conference held at Hotel Galadari, the chairperson of the AFSMA, Mrs. Druki Martenstyn, said that it was a great mental agony for the families of those servicemen killed or missing due to the senseless war, which had ravaged the country for 19 years. She requested the citizens to unite in prayer by lighting a pahana on May 11 for the safe and speedy return of those missing in action while remembering those who had sacrificed their lives.

Director of the AFSMA, Lali Kobbekaduwa, said that it had planned a constructive job oriented vocational scheme for the benefite of those family members.
