Relief for refugees in Mannar

A relief program, jointly organised by the medical officers of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama, National Hospital of Colombo and the Lions Club of Colombo District 306 B, will conduct medical clinics and distribute dry rations to the refugees in the Mannar District next week.

Dr. Kanthaka Witanachchi of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama, said that a group of 12 doctors is expected to leave for Mannar on May 11 to conduct medical clinics at the refugee camps in Jeevanagar, Murunkan and K.K. Kulam areas in the district. About 600 to 700 families will be benefited by this program.

On May 12, there will be medical clinics in the Jeewanagar camp and Kallimoddai village and another clinic on May 13 at Pesalai refugee camp.Dr. Wittanachchi said that 2100 kg of rice, 700 kg of dhal, sugar, soya meat and milk powder and 1,400 kg of wheat flour were required to be distributed among the poor families in those areas and requested donations from the public for this worthy cause. Contributions in the form of dry rations on the above items and books and stationery can be directed to the Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera, Chief Incumbent, Gangarama Temple (Tel. 327084) or to Fr. Anttony Pillai at St. Luke's Church, Borella, before May 8.
