'Festival of song' "Ajantha Geethwalokana", A literary festival of songs by the presidential Award winning Lyricist Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe will be held on the May 9 evening at the SLFI, Independent Square. A new compact disc of his latest lyrics, a new compendium of his old and latest songs and a new book of interesting episodes about popular cinema and musical figures, will be launched on this occasion. Dr. Ranasinghe has put out his latest creations in a new cassette and CD called 'Kaplana Vijithayay' which will be released on this occasion. Pioneer lyric writer Ratna Sri Wijesinghe will give a short discourse on the content of songs in this new CD. A compendium of 250 of his famous songs called 'Ajantha Geethawalee" published by Sirisumana Godage, which also includes learned reviews of some of his popular songs will be released at this festival. It is edited by a senior lecturer of the Colombo University. Samantha Herath and a lyric writer of the new generation Samudra Wettasinghe. Samantha Herath will speak on Sinhala lyrics and the compositions of Ajantha. The session will be chaired by Sangeeth Nipun Sanath Nandasiri. Material for the new book written by Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe called "Janakanthayinge Manakantha Katha" (Lesser known tales about better known people), has been taken from a series of articles Dr. Ranasinghe wrote to the 'Silumina' while he was working as a journalist at Lake House. Cinematologist A.D. Ranjith Kumara will speak on this publication. This book will also hit the market stands on this day. This festival is organized under the patronage of Outstanding Song Composers Association (OSCA) and the Sri Lnaka Lyric Writers' Association. |
