Sri Lanka Police women's football team to Germany

Sri Lanka Police women's football team will embark on a 7-week German tour and will be playing a series of 17 matches against German Police and club sides.

The tour has been organised by Asian German Sports Exchange Program (AGSEP) with the blessings of the Minister of Sports and the FFSL. Especially in view of the ongoing peace process, the women's football team will extend invitations to all 17 German football venues to join hands and to play at least one match in the northern areas, yet indicated as "uncleared areas".

AGSEP this year, launched by a big exchange program specially focusing on supporting the PEACE process by means of bringing people together through sports. AGSEP already got the blessings from Mr. Bernard Goonatilleka, who is the Head of the Monitoring Peace Mission under the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and the Minister of Defence. Tilak Marapona who met Mr. Dietmar Doering prior to his visit to the North where a meeting with the LTTE hierarchy took place in Kilinochchi.

Apart from the Police team, AGSEP already sent the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Veterans team touring Germany from April 21 and tour ends on May 7.

SriLankan Airlines badminton team goes on a tour of Germany starting today - Junior TT team from Kandy, Kurunegala and Colombo tours Germany next month and in September, the Sri Lanka Army football team, a junior football team from Wennappuwa and the National handball team of Sri Lanka go to Germany.

The Sri Lankan Police girls are accompanied by the President of the FFSL DIG Randeni - Chef de Mission - and Clement de Silva - ASP CID who is the Manager of the team.

The CEO of AGSEP Dietmar Doering will be associated with the team throughout their tour in Germany.
