Business leaders welcome peace talks

The Joint Forum of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Employers Organisations and Trade Associations of Sri Lanka (J-Biz) has welcomed the commencement of peace talks by the Government and the LTTE.

In a news release, the association has said that "it is delighted to learn that the dates for the peace talks have been agreed by the Government and the LTTE". "We earnestly urge all political and other concerned parties to set aside differences and work together in union to set in place a strategic direction that is necessary for a conducive environment that is safe and secure," the release said.

Chairman Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Tilak de zoysa has also welcomed the commencement of peace talks. In a news release, he has said that the announcement signals the beginnings in realising the dream of all Sri Lankans to have a permanent end to the travails we have gone through for the last 19 years. "We at the Chamber are optimistic and hopeful that the peace talks will be successful," the release said.

The CCC has assured its support to the government, other political parties, non-governmental organisations and all other stakeholders in their efforts on taking the peace talks forward.
