Digital software solutions provider wins Shell LiveWIRE award Rishan Fernando and Harin Nanayakkara, the business partners of E-Futures Pvt. Ltd., bagged the award for the best young entrepreneurs at the Shell LiveWIRE Young Business Start-up Awards 2002 held in Colombo recently. E-Futures is a global digital software solutions provider with a vision to develop tailor-made software solutions for governments of developing countries. G.A. Nandani Ajantha of Susinidu Dresspoint at Tholangamuwa, Kegalle emerged first runner-up. She had started with a ready-made clothing business and has now diversified into making environmental-friendly cloth bags. The second runner-up was Hemantha Priyadarshi who manages Ishara Offset Printers at Middeniya, Hambantota. He had started his printing business because he was unable to find employment elsewhere. Seven other young business people who made it to the finals received consolation prizes. Shell Sri Lanka Country Chairman and Managing Director Roberto Moran said that Shell LiveWIRE has made an important contribution towards generating new business start-ups and future success stories. Shell LiveWIRE Trust encourages young Sri Lankans to start businesses of their own. Young Sri Lankans are also encouraged by the project to realise that starting and operating a business of their own is not only viable, but an attractive option to conventional employment. He said Sri Lanka's socio-economic and political climate was at a low ebb during the two decades of civil war. Even investors shunned Sri Lanka due to global economic recession, which left the economy in a crisis state. The Shell LiveWIRE Young Business Start-up Awards scheme aims to recognise the achievements of young people between the ages of 18 and 32, who have been in business between three months and two years.
