Sam's Sing-a-longs
a seller in Dubai

Sam the Man

News comes to us from Sam the Man in Dubai where he has been a featured guest artiste at the 'Horshoe' discotheque at Hotel Quality Inn Horizon. "Being a disco the scene is very heavy with a lot of equipment and gadgetry on the bandstand, however my job as usual, is to bring back the music of the 60s and 70s and the audience here do appreciate the music of that era very much.

They enjoy the variety of my music - Latin American, Caribbean, Spanish, Rock n'Roll - and also songs from Elvis Presley and Louis Armstrong." 'What a Wonderful World' from Louis is a must every night" writes Sam, who is lined up to do two gigs of 30 minutes every night but more often than not ends up playing three gigs to the demanding audience with Aquarius as his backing band. Sam the Man goes on to say that Benjy and Aquarius the resident band at the Horshoe for the past one and a half years are enjoying unlimited success. The band is very professional and highly talented and what's more are dedicated and committed musicians.

Aquarius

The popularity of the band is tremendous so much so that fans come over from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah just to spend an evening with Aquarius. On July 25, Benjy celebrated his 50th birthday - it was a packed house with no inch of space left. Happy belated wishes Benjy from us!

Sam a senior musician who is proud of the bands Aquarius and Mirage (Mirage play at Marco Polo) will fly back to Colombo early next week in time for his scheduled dates a Sing-a-long at the BMICH on August 24 organised by the Lions of Nugegoda and Jawatta Summit, the Centenary Ball of the Victoria Masonic Temple and of course for another Sing-a-long at the Galle Face Hotel on September 7. However, if you are one of those 'Sunset Music' fans then remember he'll be in full swing on Sunday evenings at the Terrace, Mount Lavinia Hotel.
