Chairman and Chief Mentor Infosys M.R. Narayana Murthy

"Sri Lanka will become another Singapore in South Asia in the near future due to the people's enthusiasm, aspirations, dedication and urgency to get things moving faster. "Even India can learn the lessons of faster decision making and cultivating better relationships among people, from Sri Lanka."

These are excerpts of a speech made by Mr Murthy at the 14th Anniversary Convention of the Association of Professional Bankers.

Murthy, widely known as Asia's Bill Gates, was in Sri Lanka for the first time last week. He visited Trincomalee and also met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He is to be appointed as an adviser on Information Technology to the Prime Minister and the Sri Lankan Government.

Raj Rajaratnam

Raj Rajaratnam, Sri Lankan-born top US fund manager, bought a seven per cent stake of Hayleys for Rs 420 million and a further three per cent stake in Commercial Bank for Rs 270 million last week. His total investments in the Colombo stock market rose to Rs 1.5 billion. He now owns over five per cent in Commercial Bank, eight per cent in Hayleys and four per cent in John Keells.
