Diploma in Quality Management The first Diploma in Quality Management, organised by the Sri Lanka Association of Quality (SLAQ), was initiated recently. This programme is designed on the same lines as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) examinations so that those who complete the diploma course could sit for the ASQ examinations. This is said to be the only course available in South Asia to meet this requirement. Dr. Srilal de Silva, President SLAQ told the participants that the industry needs professionals in quality management to improve competitiveness and that acquiring ASQ qualifications will assist the industry to meet this requirement. He stated that there are only a few ASQ qualified personnel in Sri Lanka and that this situation needs to change soon. He mentioned that this is a continued effort of SLAQ to assist the industry and services to upgrade quality management activities by employing professionals who have demonstrated their competency in quality management. He stated that SLAQ is working closely with ASQ and IQA (UK) to upgrade the standards of training. SLAQ training programmes are mainly based on ASQ and IQA requirements. Dr. de Silva mentioned that SLAQ will conduct many professional training courses in Sri Lanka including postgraduate courses under affiliations with a number of overseas universities in the near future. Dr. de Silva further stated that ASQ programmes were developed more than 30 years ago to recognise individuals who had demonstrated proficiency within a specified body of knowledge. More than 80,000 had received this certification worldwide and these programmes have become the marketplace requirements for quality professionals. Mangalika de Silva, Training Manager SLAQ and Course Director outlined the course content. She said the course consists of eight modules based on different aspects of quality management. |
