Theft of foreign currency: room boy held

A room boy attached to the Blue Water Tourist Hotel at Talpitiya Wadduwa has been arrested by the Wadduwa police over a alleged theft of foreign currency equivalent to Rs. 186,800 from Dr. (Mrs.) Toka Neilli a Russian tourist who was staying at the hotel.

Mr. Adrian Kulatunga, General Manager of the hotel, had complained to the police regarding the theft on Monday. The room boy under interrogation admitted that he had committed the theft and changed the foreign currency from a money lender.

The room boy, Ajith Priyadarshana Priyagamage, was produced before the Panadura Magistrate Sirisunanda Herath who released him on Rs. 5 lakhs surety bail and postponed the case.

Dr. (Mrs.) Toka Neilli had come to Sri Lanka on a business mission and had been staying at the hotel for several days when the alleged theft took place in her room, police said. OIC Lalith Abeysekera and Inspector K. Bopitiya of Wadduwa Police conducted the investigations.c
