Rajagiriya double murder :

Special police team hot on the heels

by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE

A special team of police officers has been deployed to track down the killers of two persons, whose bodies were found dumped on the road at Moragasmulle, Rajagiriya last Wednesday. The two persons have been identified as those of D.A. Sanath Kumarasiri alias Sana and A.H. Chitranada alias Senaka of Kalapaluwawa, close associates of slain gangster Baddegana Sanjiva, Police sources told the Sunday Observer."

The slaying which appears to be linked to gang rivalry will unravel many things on underworld killings. On an earlier occasion Sana was arrested by the police for possessing a T-56 automatic rifle with ammunition, Supdt. of Police Nugegoda, Cecil Perera said.

Police are investigating whether Sana and Senaka was linked to the murder of Vaithilingam Niranjan, a planter from Nuwera Eliya who was gunned down last month opposite a restaurant at Kollupitiya. He was alone inside the vehicle when an unknown person had walked up to the vehicle and fired several shots at him with a pistol.

Asked whether the two suspects were involved in the murder of a well known golf player, Shanthikumar and "Club Wasantha" who ran a restaurant at the Kotte Chandra de Silva stadium, police said they were investigating the matter.

However the two slain persons has had close associations with a former high ranking Presidential Security Division (PSD) Officer, police said.

According to police the two slain persons had unlawfully converted a state property at Nawala on their behalf and had fraudulently sold portions of the property to several persons. The buyers had been later harassment by the two gangsters to leave the property. The two persons had even been involved in setting fire to a lorry belonging to the Kotte Municipal Council.

Several cases against the two suspects have been filed in courts for murder, possession of unauthorised firearms and several robbery cases, police said.

Senior SSP, Nugegoda Raja Weerakoon and SP Cecil Perera have directed OIC Welikade, A. Chandasiri to round up suspects involved in the assassination.
