Kandy in semi-finals with 72/13 win over Airmen by S. M. JIFFRY ABDEEN, Kandy Sports Correspondent Defending Caltex Clifford Cup Champions Kandy Sports Club made an impressive campaign in defence of their title when they beat Sri Lanka Air Force by 72 points (6 goals, 6 tries) to 13 points (1 goal, 2 penalties) to enter the semi-finals of the Caltex Clifford Cup Rugby Tournament from the match at Nittawela yesterday. At half time Kandy SC led 27-7. The Airmen were able to restrict the Kandy team in the first through some fine tackling but cracked up after the turnaround allowing Kandy to score almost at will. Kandy scored tries through schoolboy centre S. Liyanage (3), flanker Tulanga Trivado Laga (2), fly half Nilfer Ibrahim (1), flanker Dilip Silvam (1), winger Indrajith Bandaranayake (1), No. 8 Malith Silva (1), hooker Mohammed Buksh (1), winger Sameera Silva (1) and full back Ashan Cooray (1). Full back Nalaka Weerakkody goalled 5 tries and flyhalf Nilfer Ibrahim added the extra points to the other. For Air Force centre Ajith Prasanna scored the try and full back Ranjith Anthony added the extra points and also fired the penalties. Priyantha Gunaratne refereed. |
