Radeisha Daluwatte the 'California girl' by Leslie Fernando Former national and Asian Games swimmer Radeisha Daluwatte is continuing to perform exceptionally well for her school Ranchobuena Vista High School in California. At the recently concluded High School Championships Meet, Radeisha was greatly responsible for a new meet record in the 4x200 metres free style relay. She was the anchor woman in the relay, swimming in the final lap. The relay quartet composed of Radeisha, Alssa Hansen, Laura Grika and Robin Lelieux 'clocked' 9.23.47 secs to erase off the earlier time of 10.24.46 secs. She has been doing well for the school, winning the 100 metres free style and the 100 metres back stroke. The former Ladies College and Colombo International 'star' swimmer, who was the first choice for the postponed SAF Games in Pakistan last year, is here on a short holiday. The High School swimming season started in March-June and she started training under Scott Lawson, the Olympic breast stroker who won a medal for the squad. Radiesha also swims for her club in Sandiego District, Vista, California where she trained under L. Dean. Radiesha's feat at the club meet too was praiseworthy, coming in first in the 200 metres back stroke and third places in the 50 metres free style, 100 metres free style, 100 metres back stroke and fourth in the 200 metres free style. Last year she was awarded the 'Most Valuable Swimmer' award at the High School meet. She also has been picked for the waterpolo team and the season begins in the first week in November. Radeisha is the daughter of former Army Commander, Rohan Daluwatte, Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Brazil and Jayanthi, a former Sri Lanka ace basketball player. |
