SriLankan Airlines sponsors tennis

SriLankan Airlines moved into tennis for the first occasion with the signing of an agreement with the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) to sponsor the sport for a period of one year from August this year for a sum of US dollars 10,000 specifically for the airline to provide tickets for players competing overseas.

The President of the SLTA, Suresh Subramaniam, thanked SriLankan Airlines and T. Jayaseelan in particular for this sponsorship deal, which will take away a heavy burden off the SLTA finances. This money will be utilised for the juniors travelling abroad and their coaches. He hoped that SriLankan Airlines will continue with their sponsorship next year and also increase the package.

The Media Relations Manager of SriLankan Airlines, Ruvini Jayasinghe, said that the airline was in the forefront of promoting sports in the country and that they have been sponsoring events like the SriLankan Golf Classic, Singer-SriLankan Rugby 7s, water sports, turf events etc and have recognised that sporting events will bring in tourism. She said: With this in mind, SriLankan Airlines will continue to help sports. Promotions Executive (Events) of SriLankan Airlines, Hyasinth Silva, said that the airline expects advertising and publicity from the SLTA, who have agreed to have SriLankan Airline logo on the tee shirts of players playing overseas and in the country. The SLTA has also agreed to display banners and hoardings at the SLTA on a permanent basis.

The others who were present were Ananda de Silva (Secretary of SLTA) and Arjan Perera (Vice-President of SLTA). (L.G.)
