Initiated by the Ministry of Industries, the program is titled 'Dirigamana'.

The first phase of Dirigamana will include the NRIZ and the zone in Uva Paranagama with an investment of Rs 40 million.

Plans are afoot to establish zones in all 23 districts.Under the second phase, 810 new factories will be opened in 135 electorates with an investment of around Rs 3.2 billion.

All zones will have office space with basic infrastructure, marketing, business and technical facilities.

"It is essential to develop the rural economy to achieve rapid socio-economic growth in the country.

Dirigamana and NRIZ are the first steps in realising the Government's vision of creating a prosperous Sri Lanka".

"Through this program, the Ministry is planning to connect villages like Nikaweratiya to countries such as USA."
