Body language Business Style by J.A.A.S. Ranasinghe The posture of the guests at the dining table is particularly important. Table manners demand certain behavioral standards from the guests. * If you accompany your wife, please ensure that she sits down before you occupy your seat. You, as the gentleman, are expected to pull the chair with both hands and arrange for your partner to sit down first. In the case of a cocktail, you are expected to keep standing with the other guests until the function is over while enjoying the cocktail. At cocktails, ensure to use the cocktail stick. Use of spoons and forks is generally not acceptable. * One may gently keep one's forearms on the edge of the dining table, but one should desist from resting one's elbows there. This is a common unrefined habit which is practically observed at most parties. * When you sit on the chair, make sure that you sit straight. However, one can lean slightly over one's plate at the act of eating. * You are requested to remove your shoes and bring your legs on to your seat when you enjoy a meal in a Japanese restaurant. Under no circumstances, should you remove your shoes and raise your legs when you attend other dining parties.
