Central Finance acquires mini hydro power company

Central Finance (CF) has acquired a 57 per cent stake of Mark Marine Services Ltd, the hydro power plant at Carolina Estate, Watawala.

The facility, which was developed at a cost of Rs. 230 million has a generating capacity of 2.7 MW. The plant is said to have recorded the highest capacity usage last year among mini hydro power plants currently in operation, despite the adverse whether conditions which prevailed during this period.

The turbines used by this project are from Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon Ltd, a well-known UK company.

According to a CF news release, this is one of the most environmental friendly non-hazardous power plants to obtain approval from the Central Environmental Authority and other regulatory bodies.

This is the third hydro power project the company has invested in. The others are at Rakwana and Delgoda - through Zyrex Power. With this project, the company's contribution to the national grid increases to 5.9 MW.

Central Finance Co. Ltd, incorporated in 1957, operates through its head office in kandy, City Office in Colombo and 24 branches and marketing offices.
