Ski - capped DJ

DJ Manjula predicts a hectic festive season this year. He thinks it will be better than last year. The resident DJ at the popular night club Blue Leopard, at GOH, DJ Manjula is working on a special New Year's Eve which should not be missed. Soon after he left college D.S. Senanayake, Manjula started deejaying for house parties using audio cassettes!

Then he joined Juke Box of Gerry Jayasinghe's before deciding to go on his own. Muzic International headed by DJ Manjula is kept extremely busy with four other DJ's spinning grooves.

Name: DJ Manjula (Manjula Caldera)
Birthday: December 12 (goody, another reason to celebrate)
Status: Married. Has been so far four years.
Fav colour: Black.

Trendy outfits: I like to wear black denims and long sleeved shirts. At the Blue Leopard its black leather jackets and ski cap for me.

Hair do's: No not for me. I like a bald head.

Fav song of '80s/'90s: '80s - Dying Inside to Hold You - Timmy Thomas, '90s - Celebration - Kool & The Gang.

Qualities you like in a girl: She should be understanding, fun loving, fashionably dressed and a good conversationalist.

While deejaying how do you reject advances from girls: I don't reject their advances. I tackle them diplomatically!

How much of a party guy are you: A lot. I'm at the Blue Leopard on Fridays and Saturdays so I can't. But during the week I like to party, go to other clubs, catch the DJ's in action or the bands playing there.

Are you the first to hit the dance floor: My favourite band is Wild Fire and I do so with my wife.

Are you superstitious: Not always. I believe in horoscopes. I believe in the Rahu period and I've experienced good results.

Are you vain by nature: Yes. I'm conscious of my dress code when I'm out with my wife or when I meet clients regarding entertainment events.

What's your pet hate: People who talk behind my back and make ugly gossip.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: It all depends on the person and the circumstances.

What keeps you awake at night when you are not deejaying: I watch VCD and switch off by 2 am.

Where would you like to be most now: In Vancouver, Canada. Because it is a peaceful country, there's plenty of good food and the people are very friendly.

Do you believe in love at first sight: Yes. That's how I married my wife Nevanka (nee Wickramasinghe). What other profession would you like to be in: Motor mechanics. I studied it in Canada and in Hong Kong, sat for exams too. I just don't know how I switched to being a DJ.

Do you like to live dangerously: No! I'm a peaceful kind of guy.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I do whatever, I can to stop wars and make people live in harmony.

Fav food: Chinese. I can cook - my speciality is the Kalu pork curry.

If you could change anything about yourself what would it be: I'm happy the way I am.

What would you like to be in the next life: I'd like to be a human being again and be a radio DJ.

Which product would you like to most endorse: Perfume for men.

Are you a 'work out' fanatic: I have a machine at home, but not a fanatic as such.

Fav cartoon character: Pooh Bear.

Fav rap star: LL Cool J. He is not extreme in his lyrics.

Which character would you like to play in a film: A racing car driver.

Fav DJ: The late Steve Jay. He showed me the ropes in deejaying.

What do you think life would be like in the year 3000: High tech equipment will be predominant. There won't be any culture or love. People will be like machines.

What is it with you - segue or patter: I don't believe in segueing. Dancers at the Blue Leopard - they want different rhythms and patter. It's crowded nights on Fridays and Saturdays - with dancers enjoying themselves to R&B, hip-hop and music of the '70s and '80s.
