Student violence condemned The Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty Board of the Open University of Sri Lanka has "vehemently condemned the current trend of student indiscipline as well as senseless brutality by students against fellow students and teachers within the national university system," a Faculty Board statement said. The statement adds: "The current actions of extreme brutality perpetrated by a section of the student population on others is certainly not by accident. "The trend reflects a breakdown of moral values for which we should take collective responsibility as parents, teachers, the clergy, law enforcement officers, the Government and civil society. "The current trend should be arrested with utmost urgency by the university management through a firm resolve to discipline those who engage in cowardly actions and threaten humanity. "We appeal to law enforcement authorities to perform their professional obligations to the best satisfaction of all. "The teachers of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Open University of Sri Lanka share in the grief of the members of the bereaved family of the slain student of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura". |
