Over 200 entries for Golden Jubilee Badminton Nationals

Over 200 entries have been received for the Golden Jubilee National Championship of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) scheduled to be staged at the Royal College Sports Complex from November 26 to 30. This is being sponsored by the Commercial Bank.

The Tournament Secretary of the SLBA Lakpriya Edirisinghe, disclosed that 35 entries have been received for the men's and women's singles, and 25 each for the men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles.

The entries closed last Tuesday and the draw is to take place on November 21.

The other events to be worked off are - Veteran Mens Over-40 Singles and Doubles, Veteran Womens Over-35 Singles and Doubles and Masters over-50 Singles and Doubles. Former national champions are to be felicitated at the historic event where the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Johnston Fernando, is to be the chief guest on the opening day, and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, at the finals.

Meanwhile, the Ariyadasa Silva Memorial Open Championship too is scheduled to be worked off in February next year (2003), but the SLBA have yet to get confirmation regarding the dates for the Satellite Championship scheduled to be worked off in Sri Lanka during this period (February) from the International Badminton Federation (IBF) and the Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC).
