Lion open indoor cricket tourney starts December 9

After the success of the Mercantile tournament sponsored by "Lion" brand last October, "Lion" will sponsor the second major event for the year with the open indoor cricket taking place from December 9th at Thalawatugoda.

This Tournament as opposed to the Mercantile tournament is open to all Mercantile Sports Clubs, Government sector clubs and schools and old boys unions.

The tournament will be conducted in three divisions and ten teams will play in each division. The times of play will be in the evening as the convenience of the participants have been taken into account.

A large number of teams have already entered and defending champions. Favourites and runners-up East west Marketing will be fielding strong teams. The entry fee for the tournament is Rs. 10,000 and the closing date of entries - November 25.

The two semi-finals and the grand final on February 28 will be telecast live on TV. The champions will receive the prestigious "Lion" trophy and there will be cash prizes and trophies worth Rs.75,000 for the winners and runners-up and best all round performers will receive trophies and certificates. An innovative prize has been introduced by the sponsors for the "Best Cheering Squad".
