From weapons of destruction to objects of practical use... Emptied of firepower, the deadly artillery shells that once caused havoc to life, limb and property, appear to have an innocuous appeal to the LTTE who have found a practical purpose for the dented shells. As our photographer Sulochana Gamage discovered on his recent tour of Mullaithivu, the debris that is a deadly reminder of war, is being used by the LTTR as road markers in their construction work on the Paranthan-Mullaithivu highway in the LTTE high security zone. Hopefully an endowment to peace.

Media minister orders probe : Gang storms Lakmina office

An unidentified armed gang attacked the editorial office of the opposition weekly newspaper Lakmina in the early hours yesterday and all the newspapers that were ready for despatch on Sunday morning were burnt and destroyed.

CMC declares war on noise pollution

The Colombo Municipal Council has declared war against noise pollution and has threatened to penalise those responsible for the continuous noise within the city limits. Places coming under the close scrutiny of the CMC officials are mosques, temples, clubs, schools and playgrounds.
