Sri Lanka can't await Nuremberg-type trials

by Wendell W. Solomons

On August 19th when a protest demonstration arrived at the German embassy in Sri Lanka's capital, the ambassador met the protestors.

On the next morning, a newspaper reported on its front page that Ambassador Jurgen Werth had assured the protestors fullest German cooperation and support for their struggle.

"We are a country, which was subject to cruelty and torture of Hitler's fascist rule and we well understand your problem," the ambassador said.

The demonstration had been organised by the EPDP (Eelam People's Democratic Party), a former Tamil militant organisation that has entered the world of ordinary politics in Sri Lanka. It had led a march to several embassies to protest recent roadside assassinations of its fellows in the capital. The slayings, done by hand gun at point-blank range, were attributed by the EPDP to the LTTE; the LTTE makes itself out to be the sole representative of Sri Lanka's Tamils.

False flag operation

The Nazis put out a legend that they were creating a breathing space for Germans (a 'Lebensraum'). To make for that breathing space, the cadre of Adolph Hitler's Nazi Party bulldozed liberals out of state affairs. The history of German-upon-German violence was a stirring memory of the ambassador in Colombo as he dealt with the EPDP claim of Tamil-upon-Tamil violence.

The LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) declares the idea that it is liberating a living space or homeland for Tamils. However, the ambassador's reference to the Nazis who massaged the paraphernalia of state with clockwork precision, makes out in the LTTE an authoritarian, conspiratorial group.

The indictment served on Nazi 'Lebensraum' strategists at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials of 1945-1946, contains words such as these:

"...including as typical and systematic means by which the wars were prosecuted, murder, ill-treatment, deportation for slave labour and for other purposes of civilian populations ... murder and ill-treatment of prisoners of war and of persons ... the taking and killing of hostages, the plunder of public and private property...'

"The common plan or conspiracy contemplated and came to embrace as typical and systematic, and the defendants determined upon and committed ... murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation and other inhumane acts committed against civilian populations before and during the war, and persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds..."

The Nazis turned deaf ears to statements to moderate their actions because they pursued a agenda that had proceeded beyond civil life and into criminal conspiracy. Finally, Nazi 'Lebensraum' had to be stopped by an alliance of several nations. The Nazis use of a false flag operation, ended in immense suffering for Germans and other nations.

You would have noticed that the Nuremberg indictment contains charges that the EPDP has been making. The EPDP is hardly alone; the European Communities and the USA have observed and deplored in their respective statements several actions of the LTTE.

Yet, from what we see in the EPDP's situation today, the statements continue to fall on deaf ears. The Sri Lankan government's position is no easier. The LTTE withdrew from peace talks in April 2003 during the term of one Sri Lankan Cabinet and continued in the same vein into year 2004 during the term of another. Both Ministerial Cabinets came into office through elections studied on the ground by visiting, overseas parliamentary observers.

Peril down the road

The ambassador may also have glimpsed peril further down the road. This sensivity of the situation is represented in the writings of J. N. Dixit, National Security Advisor to India's Premier, of Dr. Subramanium Swamy, leader of India's Janatha Party and of others. An expansion of separatist authoritarianism in Sri Lanka would have consequences for the framework of the Indian federation.

In contrast to 19 million population Sri Lanka, India's population exceeds 1 billion. India's large population is distributed among several federal ethnic states, sensitive to separatism. Sri Lanka is offset from India's southern Tamil state just by the waters of the Palk Strait, a channel that is just 64 km at its narrowest point and dotted by islands.

A subversion of the Indian federation is not a topic any reasoning statesman would stand for because a destabilised Indian population could not but place pressure on 400 million population Western Europe. Its high population density is already being tested not by apprehended human smugglers but rather by the invisible seepage through the extensive and contiguous border line with Central and Eastern Europe, which transits into the nations of the destabilised 320 million population USSR.

If you check 'Saturday's Miracle' at www.geocities.com/worldcityessays/ you will find World Bank Chief Economist Lawrence Summers was alerted by this researcher in 1993, ahead of destabilisation, of the consequences of 'Shock Therapy'. The alert provided a warning against extrapolating to centrally planned economies the social engineering conducted in countries such as Sri Lanka.

According to U.S. Congressional testimony of Professor Janine Wedel and researcher Anne Williamson (among several whose work has been placed on the Net) the latter nations were subverted within the spate of a few years.

The chief actor who passed what Williamson has called the 'cookie plate' to fellow Harvard luminaries appears in Congressional testimony as none other than Chief Economist Summers. His monetarists, discovered to have been mustered even in violation of U.S. government procedures, arrived in Moscow to devalue the rouble more than a hundred fold.

Summers was spreading in the 1990's, methods he had built starting more than a decade earlier when countries such as Sri Lanka were earmarked for inducement of indebtedness.

Today even Summer's less densely populated North American continent would be hard put to find space in the event of a neglectful subversion of peninsular India (it was this same Chief Economist who declared that nuclear waste should be consigned to developing countries because their radiation levels are low.)

Peace and development

Soon after the collapse of the Nazis, in peace time Germany become a leading European economy. Initially aid and goodwill were set in place under the Marshall Plan. In Sri Lanka during years of hostilities, the fruit of economic activity has withered. The country is in desperate need of aid for reconstruction and development. However, the linking of the arrival of aid to the participation of the LTTE in peace talks has kept the country from moving forward.

The reason for the latter's intransigence towards peace talks may be readily understood from the causes of the indictment served at the Nuremberg trials. This researcher now applies the credentials of his forecast and study of 1993 to conclude to men of goodwill that a continuation of stalemate in small Sri Lanka is capable of inducing fall-out in India and consequently in several other nations of the world.
