New look

Sunday Observer from September 12 From Sunday September 12, 2004, the Sunday Observer will come out in a new and

more attractive format. Designed anew as a family paper it will have separate sections for each member of the family from children to parents and even grandparents.

An important value addition will be a 16-page colour tabloid newspaper for children called the Junior Observer. Incidentally, the Junior Observer will be the first English language newspaper for children in Sri Lanka.

S.M.S. Upul a 21-year-old is in urgent need of a heart transplant. The estimated cost of this life saving operation is around six lakhs, with four lakhs being the cost of the operation and the remainder being for recuperative care and treatment.

This fatherless youth is presently unemployed and does not have the means together the funds necessary for this operation.

Public help is desperately sought. Contributions can be sent to Account 207-115176-5, at the Kotikawatte Branch of the People's Bank.

I, Arasilang Kumary, 20 of Ardlaw Division, Albion Estate, Agrapatana has been diagnosed with Artial Septal Defect. Doctors have recommended immediate heart surgery estimated to cost Rs. 350,000 which the patient cannot afford. Her family requests financial contributions from the public to facilitate the surgery.

M. B. Ariyarathna (59 years) of No. 2, Railway IPW Quarters, Pannipitiya has Ischaemic heart disease and needs an urgent Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG) operation.

His consultant surgeon Dr. Rajeeva R. Peiris has recommended surgery at Durdans Hospital, approximately costing Rs. 330,000 which the patient cannot afford.

Contributions towards his treatment can be remitted to his Account No. 207 0227327 at People's Bank, Anuradhapura.

One-year-old Thakshila Isuri Kumari is suffering from a profound hearing loss. Doctors have recommended that she should benefit from an immediate Cochlear Implant. The estimated cost for the surgery is over two million rupees.

Her parents appeal for financial assistance to facilitate the surgery.
