PM calls for speedy reconstruction of Galle city by Rohan Mathes Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse stresses the need of consensus and the attention of all concerned for the speedy implementation of a re-constructed new Galle city, by the Urban Development Authority (UDA). At a special discussion last Thursday at Temple Trees, the Premier pointed out the necessity of annexing the Galle Karapitiya hospital functions with that of Maha Modera hospital, the provision of temporary business premises to the displaced businessmen affected by the tsunami disaster, the provision of houses for those displaced by the tsunami and the proposed expansion of the Galle city among others. He urged the relevant officials to render their fullest cooperation to the victims, while speedily implementing the proposals. Rajapakse pointed out the importance of acting in a practical manner in order to accommodate the people within the city limits per se and to retain the Galle Esplanade in its existing form sans change. Urban Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Skills Development and Vocational Training Minister Piyasena Gamage, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda, Power and Energy Minister Susil Premajayantha and Deputy Ministers Gunaratne Weerakone, Mahinda Amaraweera and the Galle Mayor among others, participated at the discussions. |
