Tourism Ministry to provide funds for reconstruction of hotels by Chanuka Mannapperuma The country's tourism industry will boom again in the summer April season," a senior Tourism Ministry official told the Sunday Observer. Several Sri Lanka Tourists Board (SLTB) approved hotels will be re-open for business in the next four months while some hotels which were damaged are expected to return to business within a period of one year. The official disclosed that the Ministry was planning to provide necessary funds for the re-construction programmes of those hotels. The ministry will also launch a marketing campaign for the benefit of the tourism industry. Managing Director - Confifi Group of hotels D. Furukan said, their chain hotels Eden and Spa hotels in Beruwala will be re-opened in early February. "There are so many cancellations. But I hope the tourist industry will normalise very soon", Furukan predicted. Yala Safari lodge, one of the hotels which suffered a extensive damage has also begun initial reconstruction work. Marketing Director - Jetwin group of hotels, Lalin de Mel said they have already started work on the re-construction of this Hotel. He said it would take 12 to 16 months to re-open. He said other hotels under the group which were caught in the Tsunami natural disaster were already functioning as usual. De Mel said Blue Water Hotel and Light House Hotel have already started their re-construction programme ." We can kick start the tourism industry very soon" he added.
