Galle traders extract assurances from Dinesh by Anura Maitipe Galle Traders' Association held a top level discussion on Friday with Urban Development and Water Supply, Minister Dinesh Gunewardena to improve the infrastructure of Galle city badly affected by the tsunami disaster recently, Ministry Media Secretary Lalith Rohana Liyanage told "Sunday Observer". The members of Galle Traders' Association had expressed their views about the planning of the new city. They have urged the Minister to allocate new business premises from the proposed city by considering locations of business premises occupied by them at present, he said. Meanwhile UNP MP Vajira Abeyawardena has asked whether the government had agreed to construct buildings 100 meters away from the coastal belt. Minister Gunewardena has given an assurance that no structure would be allowed within the restricted zone of 100 meters. Land required to expand the city would be acquired from around the Galle city, he said. He has also promised to set up temporary buildings to house the badly affected bus stand,fish market and other business premises in the city. Cabinet ministers, opposition parliamentarians, provincial councillors and urban councillors of all parties of Galle district participated at this discussion, Liyanage added. |
