'Neelambare' on screen soon

The Muhurath marking the launch Neelambare the maiden production of Upul Jayasinghe of Nilwala films, and maiden film direction of Kelum Palitha Maheeratne, was held recently.

Neelambare, is a love story is based on a novel written by Sujeewa Prasanna Aarachchige.

Sanath Gunathilaka, Sangeetha Weeraratne, Aakarsha Anarkali and many leading actors and actresses are slated to play main roles in the film.

Drama festival with a twist

The Janakaraliya Mobile Theatre troupe will be holding a drama festival from March 10-15 at 6.30 p.m. at the Nomad Grounds, Colombo. They will perform their plays in a tent that can seat about 500 people on all four sides of the stage which is nothing more than a raised platform at the centre of the tent.

The Mobile Theatre group was founded by veteran dramatists Parakrama Niriella and H. A. Perera in an unprecedented local initiative to enlighten and build friendly relations amongst all classes of Sri Lankan people.

Through their plays and workshops they plan to help educate and develop the whole person that is the audience. Twenty-four youth will be taking part in all the plays at the festival which are choreographed by Ravindra Mapitigama.

The group is managed by Dilip Rohana and Hemasiri Abewardena. The drama festival has been organised with the assistance of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage as well as international organisations HIVOS, FLICT and USAID.

The end of the dramatic festival will see a drama workshop conducted by the members of the mobile theatre group where they will improvise using ideas from the audience to create a novel play.

So make sure to be there along with your friends and family, experience the newest twist in Sri Lankan theatre.

The drama festival will comprise:

Chandradas - an adaptation of 'Chandradas Chor' by Indian writer Habib Tanvir March 10, 11

Andara Mal - created by the mobile theatre group March 12

Erukkalam Poo - Tamil version of Andara Mal March 13

Mayappa Halei - Tamil version of Chandradas March 13

The Dragon - a Russian play by Yergeni Shwarts translated by Cyril C. Perera March 14, 15

Framing Greece

Gamini Wasala, a Sri Lankan residing in Greece will be the first Sri Lankan to hold a photographic exhibition in Greece.

The exhibition will be held in collaboration with the Hellenic Association of Photography from March 2-15. The artiste has been an explorer and resident of Greece and will display photographs of rare places and scenic locations in Greece which he has taken during his 15 year stay.

The Sri Lankan Consul for Greece and Manager, Air Lanka, in Greece will be the chief guests.
