Thamilselvan on foreign 'jaunt' by Ananth Palakidnar The LTTE's political wing leader S.P.Thamilselvan will leave on an European tour this week to hold discussions with the organisation's international advisors on setting up a common mechanism with the government to spearhead the tsunami relief activities. Sources from Kilinochchi told the Sunday Observer a high level team comprising LTTE's Police Chief S. Nadesan, Judicial Administrator S.Pararajasingam and the Educational Administrator Illankumaran will also accompany the political chief in his European tour. According to sources the LTTE believes that the common mechanism is the need of the hour and it should be worked out with greater understanding. The Norwegian envoy in Colombo Hans Braksttar visited Kilinochchi yesterday and had discussions with Thamilselvan. Braksttar also talked with Thamilselvan over the shooting incidents in the East where some of the LTTE women cadres came under attack. Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission's Jaffna Regional Head Ronny Persson held a meeting with the Jaffna military commander, Police Chief and the LTTE's Jaffna political chief Illamparithi over the clashes between the public and the army in the Jaffna town. Troubles started following an army tractor had knocked down and killed a seven year old girl from Vembadi Girls High school on Wednesday who succumbered to her injuries. An old man was also killed on the same day when an army patrol opened fire to disperse civilians who were agitating over the girl's death. The police had arrested the driver of the Army tractor. The SLMM spokesperson told the Sunday Observer that the situation in Jaffna is now under control. |
